During the early stages of interpretation, scholars relied on narrations from the Prophet, his companions, and their followers. The interpretation was based on a continuous chain of transmission back to the originator. There was little attention paid to criticizing or verifying the accuracy of the Hadith narrations. Some scholars would mention all narrations, whether authentic or weak, without verifying their accuracy. This was due to their reliance on the chain of transmission as a form of understanding. The narration of Israeli traditions also became more widespread during this period.
