During rest, a nerve fiber is highly polarized, carrying a positive signal on the surface and a negative signal inside. This state is known as the resting potential. When a message is transmitted, the polarization disappears and a curve is drawn on the screen, representing the working potential. The message is encoded through different working potentials, which increase the intensity and capacity of the alert. The nerve fiber responds to alerts with increasing intensity but constant capacity, meaning that it can respond to alerts of greater intensity without changing its maximum capacity.
